How To Get Rid Of Water Weight (Bloating)

Bloating or the amount of water weight you carry on your body makes a big difference in how you look and not in a good way, especially when it comes to your face. Having visible cheekbones and jawline is something that will give your sexual market value a big boost. A good part of that is having low body fat, another key issue is getting your water weight (or bloating) under control.

Unfortunately, as we get older, holding water weight becomes more of a problem because our kidneys aren’t as efficient as they used to be and therefore diet becomes a much bigger issue.

I’ve noticed a major difference in the last few years on how food affects me, and you might have as well if you’re watching my videos after I had pizza the night before. Or if you could see me now, on my yearly visa run in Vientiane, where I’m living on nothing but chicken baguettes and Beer Laos Dark (and loving it).

Fortuntately, when you know what you’re doing, you can get bloating under control. To the point where I’ll notice being 3 – 5 lbs. lighter when I focus on water weight. But that’s nothing compared to the elite level cutters, UFC athletes, where guys will cut as much as 20 to 30 lbs. of water weight leading up to a fight.

How To Cut Water Weight

1) Cut Down On Sodium

Best is no salt, better is less salt, but even if you get your cheat meals down to 3 times a week you’ll notice a big improvement. Salt makes water stick to you like glue

2) Eat Less Carbs

Carbohydrates, as the name says, are made up primarily of water. The more carbs you eat, the more water you’re ingesting.

3) Drink Less Water

Similar to point two, although this one should be obvious – if you want to hold less water weight, drink less water. There is a lot of advice today, especially in the fitness community on drinking tons of water, but I think this is a mistake. I think drinking when you’re thirsty or just enough to keep your urine clear is ideal.

At one point I was drinking 2+ liters a day and was more bloated, felt more pressure on my joints (especially my knees), and was going to the bathroom every hour.

4) Cardio (Steam Room)

Now, let’s say you ignored the above three points and cheated on your diet. A good way to get rid of water weigh that day is to go in and do a solid 20 to 45 minutes on the elliptical (yes it’s a girly machine bu tit’s better for your knees). You’ll sweat off a solid amount of weight from a good cardio session.

You can also hop in your gym’s steam room afterwards if you want to take it to the next level (steam room > sauna which is hard on your nose and throat).

5) Don’t lie down before you go out or have to be in front of a camera

Not directly related to water weight after lying down for a few hours or more, the blood pools in your face making you look more bloated. I notice it for about 20 minutes after I get, especially in the mornings. Obviously you have to lie down, but I would avoid lying down before you have to be on camera or in a photo

6) Get lean

The less body fat you have the leaner you’re going to look. If you want to look less bloated, getting your body weight down will make a major difference. I think a six pack is overrated, but getting down to a flat stomach will make a big difference.

7) Get your Estrogen Under Control

Estrogen has a major impact on how much water you hold, the more your estrogen spikes the more water you hold. This is something a lot of guys on TRT (myself included) notice. It’s something you’ll also see on guys doing their first test cycle, without the proper AI dose, where they’re walking around with a moon face.

Another major negative factor in terms of estrogen control are DHT inhibitors (used to control male pattern baldness). And not just finasteride, this applies to RU58841 and possibly nizoral.

While lowering DHT is great for your hairline, its not good for your estrogen profile. And this includes not just finasterid but RU58841 and possibly nizoral. Having been on TRT and using RU58841 on my research subject SWIM needed to use a ton of AI. After having dropped RU58841 (from use on my research subject) SWIM needs no AI.

8) Stay away from minoxidil

Minoxidil, another hair loss drug will help your hairline, but is also known to make your face hold water. I’ve been off it now for a few months and have noticed a difference in how lean my face looks.


Follow the 8 steps above and I’ll guarantee you’ll look a lot leaner in as soon as a few days. Lastly, I’ve tried dandelion root and most of the good natural, water pills and they don’t do much for me so I wouldn’t recommend them. I’ve heard the hardcore drugs and laxatives that bodybuilders use get great results, but they’re super unhealthy and wouldn’t recommend those either.
