The formula for Lethargy = Hatred + Failure
Hatred of what you’re doing and failure to progress at it.
This is why so many people lack energy, they hate their job and there is no room to progress, it’s just a straight, sh*t-tier salary for life for doing the same thing every day.
The formula for Energy is the exact opposite.
The formula for Energy = Passion + Progress.
Passion for what you’re doing and progress towards your goal.
This is especially true as an entrepreneur.
If you’re not waking up with energy you’re either not passionate about what you’re doing or not making progress towards your goals, and by that I mean real goals that excite you.
We’re programmed to achieve goals without exception.
This is why the absolute best frame to navigate the world with is to play life like a game with many different mini games containing endless levels and goals.
Without new goals and progress hedonic adaptation sets in, no matter how well you’re doing. You get a short term boost and then that expensive car becomes the new normal. Hedonic adaptation is why all the things that made you happy as a kid don’t make you happy anymore, like ice cream, or toys or amusement parks, you already experience them enough that you’ve adapted to their pleasures. This is one of life’s ironies because as an adult you can finally afford to buy all the stuff you wanted as a kid.
As an adult steady energy doesn’t come from ice cream or toys, it comes from regular progress towards a goal. Just like with the video games you played as a kid, you need to be moving forward in the game of life to get that dopamine release. The more progress you make, and the faster you move, the more dopamine is released. That’s why you want to celebrate a plateau, but never set up camp there. Because with out new plateaus to reach and progress towards them, the euphoria you felt will be followed by depression and lethargy.
This why guys like Grant Cardone and Gary Vee have so much energy, because they’re passionate and aggressively progressing towards big, fun aggressive goals. Succesful people work hard because hard work gets you more progress faster which gets you more dopamine release.
Don’t fight it, just accept it and be about it. Be in the right business and take aggressive action. If you can’t get passionate about selling real estate, get passionate about the money and the territories to conquer. Or get into a vehicle that you really want to be in. You only have one life so don’t settle for a job you hate that has you struggling to get out of bed.
